Cat Tien National Park

The park covers 71,920 Hectares (278 square miles) of lowland forest and swamp in southern Vietnam and is home to numerous birds and mammals. It is approximately 160 km (100 miles) north east of Ho Chi Minh City, from which it is accessible in 3-4 hours.

One of Vietnam's most important and largest National Parks, it is mostly situated at the northern edge of Ðông Nam Bô (South-eastern) region, but includes southern edge of Tây Nguyên (the Western Highlands). The Javan rhinoceros was found in the Cat Loc area until recently, but there are many other mammals to see, including: a number of primate species such as the endemic golden-cheeked gibbon, bears, elephant and gaur.

Bai Sau

Be sure to visit Bai Sau, otherwise known as Crocodile Lake, largest of the park's wetland areas and the best opportunity for seeing larger game. The lake is 10km from the park office, and the lakeside ranger station is a stunning 5km forest walk. It is a must to hire a guide for the trip.

Bach Ma National Park

Bach Ma National Park is located in central Vietnam  in the provinces of Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam. The national park covers an area of about 37,487 ha in the districts of Phu Loc, Nam Dong and Dong Giang.

It was created in 1991 and extended in 2008 to protect the centre of the last corridor of forest stretching from the South China Sea to the Annamite mountain range at the border with Laos. With steep mountains and dense forests, this area is home to a wide variety of animals and plants.
